Ontario International Airport: Discovery, Redesign & Drupal Migration
Complete discovery, redesign, and Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 migration for Southern California's fastest-growing airport — serving 8.5M+ passengers with 1.4M users and 29.3M impressions.
Overview
Ontario International Airport (ONT), a Southern California aviation hub serving 8.5M+ passengers and 800K+ tons of cargo annually, generating $17B in economic activity, needed to modernize their digital presence with a complete redesign and Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 migration.
Challenge
With Drupal 7 approaching end-of-life, ONT faced an urgent need to migrate to a supported platform. The existing site needed a UX overhaul to better serve travelers and meet modern accessibility requirements for a government aviation authority.
Approach
Fruition led a year-long comprehensive engagement covering discovery and strategy, design, web development, SEO, local SEO, paid media, and marketing support. The team built on Drupal with custom API and plugin development, Kubernetes infrastructure, React components, and Redis caching. Key features included a custom “True Cost of Travel” calculator and pre-booking parking functionality.
Results
The redesigned flyontario.com delivers a dynamic, modern experience reflecting the FlyOntario brand as “fun, dynamic and easy.” YTD 2025, the site has reached 1.4M users, 29.3M impressions, and 90,000+ organic impressions per month — with enhanced loading speed and improved user experience across all devices.
