Blog » Why You Should Care about Google Why You Should Care about Google If the World Wide Web is your neighborhood, Google would be that well respected that guy you always turn to if you need advice about your relationship, or how to kill bedbugs, or what an umlaut is, or the guy you ask for directions to Biloxi or wherever it is you are going. Well, no neighborhood can boast of having a guy like that, which is what makes Google pretty amazing if you ask me. A study by Nielsen Company shows that more than half, 56.3 percent of web searches are done with Google, more than triple its closest rival, Yahoo! To an aspiring internet marketer, this shows clearly why you should care about this search engine. You should know by now that the higher you rank for your targeted keyword, the more people would be able to find your site through their web search. Now, since Yahoo and Google are using different algorithms, the set of rules by which they rank websites, it is obvious that your site would receive more exposure if you are ranking well in Google even if you are not doing as well in Yahoo search results. Since Google is your friend, it is also the friend of other internet marketers. That means they have seen what Google likes about web pages from the content to how many links there are pointing to that particular page, to how long it takes the site to load. With many internet marketers sharing their experiences with the search engine, you can then piece a good Google optimization plan for your website. Optimize it for Google and you would be one step closer to reaching internet stardom, well, for your site at least. Although Google is the biggest kid on the block, it does not mean that you should not make friends with the smaller ones like Yahoo and Bing. Bing is Microsoft’s search engine and it is basically in a tie-up with Yahoo after the latter needed the help of the former to stay afloat financially. With these two search engines teaming up, they were able to share resources, thus creating a better algorithm now being used by both. Even with these two search engines ganging up on Google, they are still way behind Google since the latter has already built itself into a trusted brand in search technology among other fields. With the resources being shared here and in other parts on the Interwebs, you can piece together a good Google optimization tactic as we said earlier. Since Bing and Yahoo are playing catch up to Google, they would have more or less a similar algorithm develop which means if you are ranking well in Google, you would also rank for Bing and Yahoo, so with emphasis, Google really is your friend!
