Press Release: Fruition Supports the Open Source Community

At Fruition, we believe in using the right tool for the right job; in our software development practice, that often means free and open source software. Today’s modern and secure open source frameworks allow us to produce innovative solutions which enable our clients to grow their businesses without the expense of unnecessary and burdensome software licensing.

Like the for-profit sector, the nonprofit foundations which support open-source projects are hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. For instance, the Drupal Association (DA) cancelled DrupalCon 2020 – an important community gathering and the association’s largest fundraiser. As a result, the DA was in dire need of funds to continue operations for millions of Drupal users worldwide.

When the DA announced #DrupalCares, a global fundraiser created to make up the financial gap the cancellation caused, Fruition wanted to do its part to support the open source community. By making a donation, Fruition helped the DA reach it’s 60 day goal of $500,000 in just 30 days. With the launch of Drupal 9 quickly approaching, these funds ensure the community can continue to thrive as we look to the future.

Fruition is thrilled to do our small part to see that the Drupal Association can continue to support our technology community. We are also proud to partner with clients on valuable contributions to the Drupal community. Recently we partnered with Sport Obermeyer, a longtime sponsor of development in the Drupal Commerce ecosystem, to build and release a framework for merchants to share product data with Facebook, Google and others. Fruition’s software engineers also maintain several upstream projects, including the Commerce Product Marketplace, plUpload S3 and Drupal Transcoding API modules.

Open source software is at the heart of Fruition’s service offerings. These frameworks and projects have been critical to making our client’s goals a reality and in turn, have greatly contributed to Fruition’s long term success. Now, more than ever, we’re committed to giving back and doing everything we can to support the open source community.

We’re always looking for more open source opportunities. If your business wants to explore what’s possible for your site, reach out to us to see how we can leverage our experience to create something great.
