What is E-Mail Marketing?

If you want to excel in internet marketing, you have to make use of all the tools available to you. With plenty of tools in an internet marketer’s arsenal, one can choose the right one to use for the right situation. If you are going for direct marketing, then you should reach into that arsenal and pull out e-mail marketing. If you don’t have it since you haven’t learned of it yet, do read on as we look at this powerful tool that every marketer should have and use.

Simply put, it is the usage of electronic mail to reach out to potential, current, and previous customers. It could be done to achieve different things which we would look into.

First, it is used to keep in touch with previous customers to encourage loyalty. This could be in the form of sending a newsletter to them telling them what’s new with the company, whether it has added new products to its catalog, changed the design, added features that the customer can use, and similar things.

For current customers, it is used to push other products that the individual might be interested in. If you are going to do this, be careful. You do not want to be too aggressive that you end up turning off the customer which could lead them to leaving you for another company. On the flip side, do not be too subtle that the customer might miss the product you are pushing towards them.

For potential customers, there’s a requirement before you can send them e-mails telling them about your products or services. If they have not opted-in or consented to receive e-mails from you, what you would be doing is spamming, which is definitely not good. But how do you get them to opt-in in the first place? The most common strategy by internet marketers is to offer newsletters or some freebies which the individual would receive if they opt-in. When doing this, be sure to tell them that you might send them e-mails in the future about some products or services they might be interested in. Being honest up front is important as it would not only make people trust you, it would also weed out people who have no interest in your products in the first place.

The good thing about e-mail marketing is that you can talk directly to the customer. A personalized e-mail would make people feel at ease with your brand which could lead to them to making that first purchase, add another product to their current order, or make another purchase even long after they made the initial deal.
